fishMarX ("we," "us," or "our") operates the fishMarX mobile application and website. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our app.
Information We Collect
- Account information: Email address and display name when you create an account.
- Location data: GPS coordinates when you drop pins or log catches. Location is only accessed when you actively use the app — we do not track your location in the background.
- Catch data: Species, size, weight, bait, photos, and conditions you enter when logging a catch.
- Device information: App version, device type, and OS for bug fixes and improvements.
- Purchase information: Subscription status managed through Apple's App Store and RevenueCat. We do not store payment card details.
How We Use Your Information
- To save and display your fishing spots and catch history
- To generate your personalized daily fishing report
- To power the community spots map (only spots you choose to make public)
- To process and manage your Premium subscription
- To improve the app and fix bugs
Data Sharing
We do not sell your personal data. We share data only in these limited cases:
- Community spots: Spots you mark as public are visible to other fishMarX users on the community map, along with your display name.
- Share codes: When you generate a share code, the recipient can view the spot data associated with that code.
- Service providers: We use AWS (cloud infrastructure), Mapbox (mapping), and RevenueCat (subscription management). These providers process data only as needed to operate the service.
Location Data
fishMarX uses your device GPS to place pins and log catches at your current location. Location access is requested only when you actively use these features. We do not collect background location data.
Photos
Photos you attach to catches are stored securely in AWS S3 and are only visible to you unless you explicitly share them.
Data Retention
Your data is retained as long as your account is active. To request deletion, email jim.sanders@gmail.com.
Children's Privacy
fishMarX is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Security
We use encrypted data transmission (HTTPS), secure cloud storage, and authenticated API access to protect your information.
Your Rights
You may access, update, or delete your account data from within the app at any time. For full account deletion, contact jim.sanders@gmail.com.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance.
